Accompanied Walks
An organised outing from home, at a pace that suits the individual.
Zenely’s Accompanied Walks service enables older people to leave the house with a carer at their side. The route, duration and pace are adapted to the person’s mobility, energy and preferences, with breaks and a return home whenever needed.
How It Supports the Family
Accompanied Walks bring joy to older people and reassurance to their families
The family has greater peace of mind knowing that the older person can leave the house, enjoy a change of scene and take a walk with company, without relying solely on relatives’ availability.
The walk provides an enjoyable opportunity for conversation, movement and contact with the outside environment, while helping the family keep the person they care about engaged in everyday life.
Supporting Safe & Enjoyable Walks and Outings
Planning the route & suitable conditions
The walk is organised around the person’s usual mobility, preferences and conditions on the day. There is no distance or performance target that places them under pressure.
- Selecting a familiar, manageable route with safe places to stop and return
- Agreeing an indicative duration and use of any mobility aid the person already uses
- Checking weather, temperature, light and crowd levels before departure
Preparation before going out
A few minutes of preparation can make the walk more comfortable and organised. If conditions are unsuitable, the agreed alternative activity at home is used.
- A reminder for comfortable shoes, suitable clothing, keys, mobile phone and water
- Briefly confirming that the person feels ready and wants to go out at that time
- Adapting the time, route or activity in heat, rain or other adverse conditions
A gentle pace & human companionship
The carer walks beside the older person and follows their pace. The walk remains an enjoyable social experience, not an exercise or physiotherapy programme.
- Frequent short rests on a bench or in a quiet place if the person becomes tired
- Conversation, noticing the neighbourhood or visiting a familiar nearby place
- Respecting a wish for a shorter route or immediate return without pressure
An organised return & future adjustments
The service ends with a return to the agreed location and a brief update where planned. Future routes are adapted to the person’s actual experience.
- Accompaniment to the entrance or inside the home, in line with the plan
- Updating the family on completion, duration and any significant difficulty
- Ending the outing and following the agreed procedure if an acute symptom or unusual fatigue occurs
